Actor Changes

Due to our current actor playing the protagonist Jack Miller moving abroad we had to find another actor to play the role. We wanted the actor to look the part and therefore decided to use a boy with spikey black hair and confidence to pull off Jack's gangster personality traits.

Title

We had a poll to get feedback about possible titles for the film and help us decide which one suited best. 'Knives and Forks' recieved the most votes, however after further research we decided to keep 'Jack Miller' because it suited the genre more than 'Knives and Forks' which could be perceived as a horror upon first hearing. But, with a name like 'Jack Miller' which has a british, 'laddish' sound to it we felt it fitted our trailer better and gave connotations to the protagonists personality by the stereotypical 'Jack the Lad.'

Final story board

For the final version of our story board we decided to draw the pictures on the computer using the programme 'paint'. This gave the images an animated effect which we thought was effective as it gave us more of an idea about what the trailer would actually look like.

shot: establishing shot of london buildings at night time
purpose: to show where the film is set
shot: long shot of boy and his dog walking into tunnel

purpose: the graffiti in the tunnel relates to the area the trailer is set in and gives an insight to the type of people appearing in the trailer. The purpose of him walking into the tunnel is to highlight the beggining of his journey.
black screen with text 'sometimes in life your choices are made for you' to give a brief outline of the narrative.

purpose: to help build tension and give the trailer a slight mystery, whilst telling the audience an outline of the storyline.
shot: long shot of boy and his dog sitting at a train station.

Purpose: to show that his life is random and has no set direction.
'One opportunity, what will he choose?'
shot: long shot of gang of boys in car park and main character with his dog approaching them.

purpose: to show the sort of people Jack hangs around with.

shot: tracking shot of boy and his dog walking through london.
'Respect or Loyalty'

shot: close up of boy smoking a spliff/ cigarette.
shot: long shot of boy and his dog running through london.

purpose: to show he has done something wrong, highlighting his rebelish nature

shot: close up of boy counting his money

shot: boy being watched on CCTV
shot: long shot of boy in bedroom/garage

shot: close up of wheel spin

shot: long shot of car approaching the boy
shot: mid shot of boy in car window

Outfit 2

We decided to challenge the codes and conventions of this genre. Typically, a teenage, troublesome boy would be in tracksuits and a hoody. We wanted to go against this stereotype and show that those kind of youths are not the only ones who can get into trouble and find no way out. So to do this we put our protagonist in skinny jeans and a bright coloured hoody (rather than typical white, grey or black) which is tied at the neck. This gives him more of an alternative look.

Initial outfit ideas

we liked this as it has a trademark white hoody and typical tracksuit bottoms.
We felt this outfit had a stereotypical 'chavvy' lower class look.

This outfit still has the typical tracksuit bottoms but has a bomber jacket
instead. This takes away the youth connotations of a hoody and adds more
of an older, tougher look.

In this idea we used jeans instead of a tracksuit, it takes away the 'chavvy' look
that a tracksuit brings and so makes us feel more sympathy because it is
a more normal mainstream look. The jacket however keeps that sort of
culture to the outfit.

Typography Ideas

Working Title

Originally, we were set on the idea of having the protagonists full name
as the title of our film, 'Jack Miller.'Since, we have started to think of
new ideas as we have decided to change the name, perhaps to something more
powerful with its meaning. After coming up with a few ideas, 'Knives and Forks'
has great potential in becoming our working title. We like the original effect of a
simplistic title, as just cutlery, but it is it's hidden meanings which fit our genre
that drew us to it. 'Knives' are common in the gang culture of our genre, and
although not neccesarily seen or used in our trailer, still relating to the type of
community and culture we are trying to portray. 'Forks' is effective because Jack
is confronted with many 'Forks in the road' where he has to make a choice, such
as our strapline; 'A choice between Freedom and Friendship'
